A MANYATTA, is a Maasai house

The Maasai are a blessed people who still live by their native customs.  Even in the city they hold onto their traditional beliefs.  They are known as honest and hard working people.  I was fortunate enough to become friends with a Maasai family who live in the slums of Kenya.  This is my new family.

My best friend in the Maasai community

The Maasai live with no shoes, no electricity, no water, they live completely by the land.  Eventhough they are surrounded by modern facilities they maintain their tradition.  A truly unique and special people.

The women build their own homes

These are the most amazing women in the world

In the Maasai community the women do most of the work.  They build the houses, they take care of the children and they earn money.  Unfortunately, due to Maasai culture, they are given very little freedom in spending their money.  We hope to assist these women to become independent so they can take care of their children as the world changes around them.
